Managing Partner

Andrew R. Garman, Managing Partner, joined the Lucent New Ventures Group in 1998. He has accumulated twenty years of investment and management experience in the formation of new ventures from corporations and institutional labs. Before joining Lucent, Mr. Garman was the Managing Director of BT Ventures at Bankers Trust Company, where he created and managed a portfolio of internally generated corporate spin-outs in information technology. Prior to joining BT Ventures in 1996, Mr. Garman was the Vice President of Strategy and Business Development for Xerox’s New Enterprise Group. At Xerox, he helped expand the firm’s internal venture portfolio by developing eight companies based upon technology innovations, primarily derived from the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center.

From 1985 to 1991, he was a General Partner at CommTech International Inc., an incubator and venture capital firm with exclusive rights to commercialize the technology of SRI International, one of the world’s largest non-profit research institutions. Mr. Garman is currently a director of Azure Solutions Ltd., Evolved Networks Limited, Microwave Photonics Inc., Psytechnics Ltd., and Vallent Corp., and an observer of iBiquity Digital Corporation. He was formerly a director of AcuPrint, Inc., Amati Communications Corp., Celiant Corporation, Certco LLC, ColoRep Inc., Document Forum, dpiX LLC, InXight Software, Inc., Lucent Public Safety Systems (now Intrado), Placeware, Vidus Ltd., and Visual Insights Inc.

Mr. Garman holds an AB in Engineering and Applied Physics from Harvard College, a MS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and an MBA from Stanford University, where he was named an Arjay Miller Scholar. He is a past president of the Stanford Business School Alumni Association and member of the Board of Advisors.
