Thomas Uhlman

Thomas M. Uhlman, Managing Partner, co-founded the Lucent New Ventures Group in 1996 and formally launched it with Mr. Socolof in 1997. Before leading the Lucent New Ventures Group, Mr. Uhlman served as Lucent’s Senior Vice President for Corporate Strategy, Business Development and Public Affairs, overseeing activities relating to acquisitions, new business creation, planning, and government affairs.

Prior to Lucent’s creation in 1995, Mr. Uhlman was the Vice President of Corporate Development for AT&T responsible for M&A activity worldwide. Before joining AT&T in 1995, Mr. Uhlman spent twelve years at Hewlett-Packard Company (“HP”). As the Director of Corporate Development at HP, he was responsible for worldwide equity investments, strategic alliances and strategic planning. At HP, he also directed the work of President Reagan’s Commission on Industrial Competitiveness on behalf of HP’s CEO, the Commission Chairman.

Prior to HP, Mr. Uhlman worked in Washington at the U.S. Department of Education and was a professor of Political Science at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, where he wrote extensively on legal and race issues. Mr. Uhlman is currently a director of iBiquity Digital Corporation, Lumeta, Inc., and McData Corporation (Nasdaq: MCDT).

Mr. Uhlman received his BA in Political Science from the University of Rochester and a Sloan Masters degree from Stanford University's School of Business, where he now serves on the Sloan Program Advisory Board. He also holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and sits on the University’s Board of Visitors.
